Attleboro man in custody after brother stabbed, killed

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — Detectives are actively investigating a homicide that happened early Monday morning in an Attleboro neighborhood, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Police said they responded to an address on Melissa Drive around 3:30 a.m. on Monday for a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they found Richard McCormick, 47, of North Attleboro, outside the home with multiple stab wounds.

He was rushed to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 4 a.m., according to the district attorney’s office.

The victim’s brother, 51-year-old James McCormick of Attleboro, has been arrested and faces charges of assault with intent to murder and assault and battery, police said.

His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Attleboro District Court.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts State Police, Attleboro Police, and Homicide Unit detectives are still actively investigating the homicide, a representative for the Bristol County District Attorney said in an email.
