Man injured, airlifted to hospital after two-vehicle crash on Route 212 in Saugerties

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — An Albany County man suffered internal injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center following a two-vehicle crash on state Route 212 east of Glasco Turnpike on Friday, Saugerties police said Wednesday.

On May 24 at about 12:50 p.m., a 2012 Ford van driven by Edward Meringolo, 82, of Medusa, N.Y. in the Town of Rensselaerville, pulled out of a driveway on the south side of Route 212 into the path of an eastbound 2011 Subaru operated by Charles Johnson, 23, of Saugerties.

As a result of the collision, the van overturned on its side and Meringolo had to be removed from the vehicle by rescue personnel from the Centerville Fire Department. He was flown to Albany Medical Center and treated for internal injuries. Meringolo is listed in stable condition, Police Chief Robert Nuzzo said in an email.

Johnson was not injured.

Saugerties police were also assisted by Diaz Ambulance.

Police did not report that any tickets were issued.
