The top order batter and off-spinner has been part of Somerset’s academy since 2020 and made his second XI debut in 2022.

He’s the son of former England Ashes winner, Michael Vaughan, who captained England between 2003 and 2008.

The batter is most fondly remembered for captaining England to Ashes glory n 2005.

Now Archie is hoping to emulate his father’s success in the game.

He has some big shoes to fill, with his father playing in 82 tests, 86 ODIs and two T20is for his country.

Archie spoke of his delight after being unveiled as a Somerset player today.

He said: “It’s something that I’ve worked extremely hard for and it’s something that I’ve strived for since I was a kid.

“So to get the opportunity for a club where I’ve really enjoyed myself over the last few years is an honour.”

“Since joining the academy he has demonstrated a genuine and strong desire to work incredibly hard and improve every facet of his game.

“We are really looking forward to helping him develop and grow both his game and his understanding of the professional game.”

Reacting to the news that Archie had signed for Somerset on X, Michael Vaughan quote posted an image of his son as a kid and wrote: “Clearly gets his hair from me.”

Archie is not the only son of England’s 2005 legends making a name for himself.

Freddie Flintoff’s sons, Rocky and Corey both play for Lancashire’s Second XI – with Rocky scoring a century last month to alert the world to his budding talent.
